Enclosure

Enclosure traces the explorations of an artist as a social entrepreneur from; Art School at WAIT Curtin University 1972 in Perth to the New Guinea Highlands, back to Mundaring Weir, up across Northern Australia with the multi-arts Round Earth Company, back to the Kimberleys and across to Maroota in NSW.

The large base painting for Enclosure
is a wash of a spiral representing the
macrocosm and the microcosm in one.

The image came from a youngster's hunch
about the continuum of life,
that;
experiential learning (broader, riskier and diverse),
a sense of inter-connectedness,
and in particular,
density - (not just higher or lower),
were important to comprehend.

The first series of paintings (eg Weir and Broome) are segments in a line of production with meanings that often connect back and forth.

Curving through time,
the combined painterly output and experience evolved
with the reoccurrence of seasons on the path of life.

The open-endedness of these series almost goes full circle reaching a point where the paintings and their themes, like placements on a 'continuing set of bent lines', optically curve around itself and into a spiral.

Thus changing form from a linear stasis to an enclosing dynamic that is neither open nor closed.

With this enclosing phase there is a new flow of visual meaning (from different locations and accumulated learning experiences) that "talks" both across and to each other, inside and outside, as well as through.

They are no longer a line of sets of works but an emerging interactive pattern relationship.

The spiral is the Enclosure exhibition shape, a visual reference frame or scaffolding, for presenting the exploits and the works of an artist as a social entrepreneur with a sense of the density.
